32 students travelled across the Solent by Hovercraft to enjoy a very special experience at the Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR) Centre in Portsmouth.
The staff and students were introduced to the Tech Teck at the top of the new iconic building by Wightlink in Portsmouth Harbour. Students learnt about the history of the Americas Cup, had access to the many interactive machines including winches and sections of the test boats, as well as wearing the virtual reality glasses whilst steering a computer-generated version of the latest catamaran called Rita.
The group also had a physics lesson, testing their skills of sail design using the purpose-built wind tunnel to test the effectiveness of their prototype sails.
Further information was shared about the opportunities to explore apprenticeships and several students came away with much important information to help them in the future.
