6th Form pathways

At the Isle of Wight Studio School we have a pathways system in KS5 so that we can provide personalised guidance and excellent support for you as you move on into further education. We pride ourselves in the support we give students in Y12 and Y13, this is one of the many factors that makes us stand out from many other colleges and Sixth Form centres.

Orange 8 GCSEs (or equivalent) at A* to B including English, Maths & Science 3 AS-levels and 2 to 3 A2s in Year 13 Work Experience – to support students in developing employability skills their curriculum will include up to 2 days of work experience per week. our skills development partners include: UKSA, Red Funnel, Earl Mountbatten Hospice, Solar Renewables, Harwood’s Garage, GKN Aerospace, Vikoma.

High Quality Enrichment – to develop teambuilding, communication and leadership skills our 6th Form timetable will include an enrichment session weekly including outdoor activities and duke of edinburgh.

Personal Learning Support – a personalised academic support plan to provide challenge and growth enabling every student to achieve their full potential.

Pink 6 GCSEs (or equivalent) at A* to C including English & Maths 3 AS-levels and 2 to 3 a2s in year 13You need to consider carefully the number of traditional vs. applied A-levels taken.
Purple 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at A* to D including English or Maths 1 as-level in year 12 and up to 1 a2 in year 13

Magenta 5 A* to E grades at GCSE including English or Maths BTEC level 3 national diploma in Engineering or Applied Science and/or BTEC level 2 first diploma in Engineering

Teal GCSE grades below E BTEC level 2 first diploma in Engineering + entry level Literacy and Numeracy + GCSE resits, apprenticeships or employment/further training

Students wishing to join the Isle of Wight Studio School in sixth form will be invited to attend a meeting to discuss their chosen pathway in depth to ensure that the correct progression route is followed to achieve longer term aspirations.

Successful applicants will be supported in fully exploring the suitability, content and career potential of each of these pathways during their induction programme when they join the school, this will be revisited during the academic year.

BTEC:

Vocational Diplomas are offered at Level 3 (equivalent to up to three A-levels) and Level 2 (GCSE grade C+ equivalent). It is possible to study an A-level alongside a Vocational Diploma at Level 3.

  • Level 2 First Diploma in Engineering
  • Level 3 National Diploma in Applied Science

 

The Isle of Wight Studio School has partnered up with the Isle of Wight College to provide a wide range of options in Sixth Form by means of a shared curriculum provision. Students enrolled at the Isle of Wight Studio School canĀ ‘mix and match’ courses across the partnership, as long as there are no timetabling conflicts.
